Forrester Research, an independent technology and market research company, is predicting a mobile shopping boom in the near future.
Mobile commerce is forecasted to reach $31 billion by 2016. Sales amounted to $3 billion in 2010, or 1% of eCommerce but is expected to increase by 1% each year. According to a recent survey by Shop.org, 90% of online retailers are preparing mobile strategies, but they are characterized as being “immature” at this point. Many retailers are interested in pursuing the mobile market but there is much confusion among retailers on how to go about putting these strategies into practice. While there may be some consumer concern about the security of mobile shopping, these concerns are expected to fade away in the same fashion as the security concerns once widely held about online shopping.
Clearly a large boom in mobile ecommerce is on the horizon and retailers should be preparing themselves to maximize profits by partnering with app development firms that can help them realize these potential mobile strategies.
